XVIII Conference Earth-orbit-deep space

Call for Papers

On behalf of the State Space Corporation ROSCOSMOS, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the Russian Academy of Sciences, the World-class Research Center - Pavlov Center «Pavlov Center for Integrative Physiology to Medicine, High-tech Healthcare and Stress Tolerance Technologies» and the Institute of Biomedical Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences we invite you to be part of the XVIII Conference on Space Biology and Aerospace Medicine with International participation "Earth-orbit-deep space". This-year's Conference dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Institute of Biomedical Problems will be held in Moscow on November 7-9, 2023.

The Institute of Biomedical Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences is the globally recognized leader in the field of medical support for life and professional activities of humans in extreme environments. In 2023, the Institute celebrates its 60th anniversary. The IBMP was established upon the initiative of the academicians M.V. Keldysh and S.P. Korolev by the Decree of the CPSU Central Committee and Council of Ministers of the USSR dated October 28, 1963 and the Order of the USSR Ministry of Health dated October 4, 1963. It was created as the main national scientific institution dealing with the problems of space biology and medicine. In 1994, the Institute got the status of a State Scientific Center of the Russian Federation. Throughout the 60 years of fruitful cooperation with the Academy of Sciences and ROSCOSMOS, the IBMP made a great contribution to the development of new fields of knowledge - space biomedicine and biology, gravitational biology and physiology.

The Conference will be organized as a series of plenary and technical sessions as well as round tables on the following topics:

I. Deep space exploration - comprehensive assessment of human health risks. Lessons learned from orbital missions

  • Gravitational physiology for personalized space medicine
  • Genetic, proteomic and metabolic changes in space missions - lessons for personalized medicine
  • Habitat, life support systems and nutrition in long-duration space missions
  • Microbiological risks for long-duration missions
  • Astrobiology, space biology and space biotechnology
  • Space tech for public healthcare
  • Reproductive system changes as a limiting factor for deep space colonization
  • Approaches to comprehensive risk assessment of interplanetary missions
  • Actual bioethical aspects of space research
  • Expertise and perspectives of medical support for space missions

II. Psychophysiological support for cosmonauts in interplanetary space missions. Lessons learned from orbital missions, analog/model experiments and autonomous long-duration terrestrial expeditions

  • Psychophysiological risks at all stages of interplanetary expeditions
  • Specifics of positive interaction of cosmonauts in-mission: mixed crews, crew-mission control center
  • Psychophysiological stress caused by the factors of a long-duration space mission out of low orbits
  • Psychological support for interplanetary manned missions and autonomous long-duration terrestrial expeditions
  • Psychological and social rehabilitation of crews after long-duration missions
  • Ground model experiments: analog isolation research in hermetic chambers for medical and psychological support of autonomous long-duration expeditions
  • Artificial intelligence, virtual reality, psychological computer technologies and telemedicine on Earth and in interplanetary missions

III. Moon and Mars exploration - health risks assessment. Lessons learned from model experiments

  • Hypomagnetic environment: risk assessment and countermeasures
